Worksite and Leadership Experience
The end goal for all YouthBuild participants is job placement or enrollment into secondary education. Nu-Dimensions works with partners within the Catawba County community to pair students with businesses that match their interests and career endeavors. Additionally, participants are presented with a multitude of leadership opportunities through community service organizations within Catawba County.
GED/High School Equivalency/NCCER Training
YouthBuild as a program is designed to primarily work with young adults who have not obtained their high school diploma. For those students, Nu-Dimensions YouthBuild has partnered with Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) to provide GED/High School Equivalency classes to those participants who wish to finish their basic degree during the course of the program. Additionally, all participants of Nu-Dimensions YouthBuild will be offered attainment of their NCCER certificate through classes at CVCC’s construction academy and will be presented with their certification at the end of the program.
Case Management Services
After applying to the YouthBuild program, all participants are paired with a case manager. Case managers maintain a close relationship with participants and build out social support systems to help overcome the following:
- Mental and physical health concerns
- Academic needs
- Childcare and transportation
- Substance abuse concerns
- Other socio-economic challenges
Career and College Preparation Services
YouthBuild recognizes that job hunting, career planning, and college preparation can all be very intimidating, especially for young adults. As such, YouthBuild provides career and college preparation services to help guide participants towards professional and academic success. Services include:
- Interest and personality inventories
- Career mapping exercises
- Resume and cover letters
- Interview preparation
- Job fair engagement
- Portfolio development
